The INRME Concept

Why Management and Engineering together?

It has been proven in the industry and academia that many engineers have become best known managers and researchers for example stalwarts such as Prof Michael Porter or Prof Robert Kaplan and many more of you around the world who have studied and utilised both engineering and management interwoven and applied the concepts from both domains to the benefits of society.

Another perspective is of collective wisdom that if you look at boardrooms of many major companies then you will find similar combinations of personalities included to help and to steer the companies forward.

Last but not the least, if one looks at problems, blunders or projects which have gone wrong or proved disastrous then it would be found that managers and engineers both did not deliver ! In fact, the root cause analyses would reveal that their interdisciplinary or joint performance could have prevented such disastrous events. There are numerous examples to these such as over-budgeted ventures, incomplete projects, explosions, disastrous space programmes or rig explosions, chain events of credit crisis or even smallest technical hitches in the online sales promotions to name a few.

Therefore, membership or collaboration with INRME from both communities of engineers and managers and especially engineers who have become managers, researchers, innovators or seasoned corporate executives, all are more than welcome and together our efforts will deliver better products, services, prospects and more importantly create a base of knowledge, skills and expertise which will yield very useful research and innovations for centuries to come.
